It will be a long series of presentations over three days. There is also a very divers and high profiled panel of external critics. This includes people from ARUP, SOM, CASA, Space Syntax, Metropolitan Workshop, Farrells, Allies and Morrison, EDAW and more.
But it is all about the projects and the proposals. This unit 06 of the Urban Design course will present on Wednesday afternoon and some very exciting proposals and installations can be expected. Urban Mutation is a vast topic the nine students of this unit have explored a great variety of aspects of this topic. This ranges from integrating disabled people’s needs in Urban Design, aspects of memory and history on site to a theoretical approach to design as a process.
One project is exploring quite literally the mutation of a post war housing estate while another one is dealing with the overcoming of community separation or a third one is challenging ideas of sustainability with a non-car environment and a fifth one develop a range of urban typologies for a Thames river site in east London. Two projects will be presented as installations, one is in the lobby of the Wates House, investigating the process of designing trough a tactile approach and the other one will be on the first floor, a project about movement and memory as tools to create urban narratives alongside a proposal.
